About & Mission

Barry Au-Yeung teaching a private class

The Founder's Story

A Software Engineer Who Found His Practice.

Barry Au-Yeung came to yoga from an unlikely place: a career in software engineering. What began as a personal practice grew, over more than a decade, into a devoted Ashtanga Mysore discipline — and eventually, a calling to teach.

"A devoted Ashtanga Mysore practitioner; teaching yoga is an integral part of my yogic journey," Barry says. That journey now spans eleven-plus years of teaching, E-RYT500 and YACEP certification, and studios across the Bay Area — from Equinox Palo Alto to BayClub Santa Clara.

selfLove.Yoga was founded to formalize what Barry had already been doing informally for years: training a new generation of skilled, knowledgeable yoga instructors, in the most affordable way possible, without the overhead of a flashy studio.

Atmabhakti

"Self-Devotion." The Sanskrit heart of everything we teach.

Yoga is not merely about physical well-being but about nurturing a holistic balance of body, mind, and spirit. Every module, every live session, every asana cue traces back to this single idea: devotion to the self as a practice, not a purchase.

What Makes Us Different

No Fancy Decor. Just Real Teaching.

Unlike many post-pandemic studios that prioritize fancy websites, cool shops, and decorations over substantive teaching, selfLove.Yoga focuses on real, down-to-earth guidance from experienced teachers — training a new generation of skilled, knowledgeable yoga instructors in the most affordable way possible. We'd rather over-invest in curriculum than in countertops.
